The Japan Current

The Japan Current

This is a NOAA image in August 1998. An image by Channel 4 of NOAA AVHRR sensor is used. Parts of land and cloud are colored in blue using the image of Channel 2 of NOAA. The redder the color of the sea is, the higher the sea temperature becomes. As Channel 4 can observe wavelength of far infrared, temperature of sea water can be detected. Red belt is seen in the lower part of this image. This belt is regarded to show a warm ocean current by the Kuroshio Current (the Japan Current).
